I have cameras set up around the building I am working on, so the owner can see the progress on a day to day basis.

He asked me to do this about a month ago. I finally got around to doing it maybe 3 weeks ago. 

All of the cameras connect to one monitoring unit. That unit connects to the little network I have up, which is connected to the internet so they are able to access the cameras.

The unit that they cameras connect to is not a cheap piece of hardware. Not. Cheap. At. All.

Two days after it was set, it went missing.

I figured that it was taken down and used in another place in the building.

It has not been seen since.

I had to buy a new one.  Like I said before, these are not cheap.

This one I installed all on my own. I used twice the amount of bolts to put it on the wall. and even put a security cage around it that was bolted into the cement wall, with a giant padlock on to keep it locked. When I say bolted I mean I used 24 bolts, that were all 4.5 inches long and .45 inches thick.

The other day I noticed that the cage was bent. It looked like somebody was trying to pry it off the wall, and the padlock looked like somebody tried to use some bolt cutters on it.

I told the owner of the building I would figured out what the problem was, because while these crooks were trying to get the unit off the wall they cut the wires.

I replaced the unit I had in the cage with a broken unit I had at my warehouse, and took the expensive one home. I also set up 3 cameras, at a distance so I could see who it was that was trying to steal it.

Worked like a charm.

I have the entire thing on tape. I especially like the part when they realize that I changed the unit that they were trying to steal, and slam the one that was in there on the ground.

Needless-to-say I am pissed off that I have employees stealing from me, but I think I am going to use these guys as an example of why not to steal from me. I am still trying to figure out how to go about it, but I will be getting EVERY penny back.
